Mason is a child diagnosed with Adrenoleukodystrophy, or ALD. A deadly genetic disease that affects 1 in 18 000 people. It most severely affects boys and men. This brain disorder destroys myelin, the protective sheath that surrounds the brain's neurons -- the nerve cells that allow us to think and to control our muscles. Mason's mother, Ashley Young from South Carolina, must pay out of pocket for a supplement called Lorenzo’s Oil. This oil, costing over $800 every three months, in conjunction with a very strict, low fat diet, keeps the very long chain fatty acids from building and destroying the myelin sheath that protects the brain. She is a stay at home Mom of 3. She used to work but Mason has presented early health problems and she spends much of her time traveling back and forth to the hospital. The Benefit will feature live music from multiple artists, auctions and raffles. A portion of all food and drink sales will be donated to the family.
